This October 30th, 2025, HUBC got the surprising news that a payload launched a couple of weeks ago was found, but not where it landed.
On October 17, 2025, HUBC launched a CFH-Ozonesonde in the afternoon (photo below). It was a successful launch capturing ozone and water vapor data all the way to the stratosphere. Unfortunately, the payload landed over the Atlantic Ocean, just missing the southern part of the DEMARVA peninsula. We just hoped that someone would find it and that’s what happened. A person found the payload the morning before Halloween over the beach of Virginia Beach, VA. That’s around 100 km from where it landed! Below you will find more details of the flight. Incredible, but great when someone finds one of our sondes.
