Howard University Beltsville Campus (HUBC) would like to congratulate Lauryn Smith (left) for defending her Master’s thesis and Emma Knowland (right) for publishing her latest paper. Lauryn Smith earned her MS in Atmospheric Science at Howard University as a NCAS-M II Cohort 1 Fellow this week. Her Research Thematic Area is Process-level Understanding and Enhanced Modeling Capabilities and her NOAA mentors are LaToya Myles and Mark Cohen. Her thesis title was “Ozone Transport and Dispersion Modeling Within the Central Mid-Atlantic Region Using HYSPLIT” and she used the ozone data collected from the ozonesondes launched here at HUBC. Dr. Emma Knowland is a lead scientist in the development of NASA GMAO’s atmospheric composition forecast system, GEOS-CF. She directs the transition from research & development to the production system and leads the public engagement for the GEOS-CF. She recently published a paper titled “Stratospheric Water Vapor Beyond NASA’s Aura MLS: Assimilating SAGE III/ISS Profiles for a Continued Climate Record” to the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) Geophysical Research Letters where some of the stratospheric water vapor data came from the Cryogen Frostpoint Hydrometers (CFH) launched every month here at HUBC.
Congrats to Lauryn Smith and Emma Knowland
