Unmanned Aerial System (UAS)

UAS platforms has been used since 2011. During NASA’s Discover AQ project, tether balloon was used to probe the lower atmosphere (below 500 ft due to FAA regulations).

Nowadays, there are 3 efforts that utilizes UAS: drones and radiative measurements to detect biomass burning (pending on FAA approval); assembly of a tethersonde for air quality and micrometeorological studies; and integration of low-cost sensors into IMET radiosondes.
